In 1990, a decision was made to try to locate a Christian Radio Station in Forest, Ms. by a non-profit group called Central Mississippi Educational Radio, Inc. That group filed for a radio construction permit with the FCC. After three long years, the FCC granted a construction permit to build WMBU, a 100,000 watt station in Forest, Ms.
But the problems and delays were only beginning. The tower and studios that WMBU arranged to rent were sold to a new owner. So, WMBU had no place to go. This required Central Mississippi to file for another construction permit at another site.
Four additional years went by. During that time the group transferred their construction permit to the Moody Bible Institute. WMBU was finally built in 1997 on Bald Hill at Lake, MS.
WMBU signed on the air on October 3, 1997 covering Meridian, Jackson, and Laurel. WMBU and WMBV are sister stations. WMBV is located in Dixon's Mills, AL, which is also owned by Moody Bible Institute.
